Omar Vizquel "OH Say San You Sing"

Written By Tim Robin on Monday, 3 October 2011 | 01:20

The San Francisco Giants' leading run producer is no Aubrey-come-lately when he has a song in his heart and some tender lyrics on his mind.
Aubrey Huff was attending a friend's wedding a few years ago when the karaoke machine cranked up and he wowed the assembled guests with his rendition of George Strait's "Amarillo by Morning." One thing led to another, and, in 2005, Huff recorded a track alongside Omar Vizquel, Coco Crisp and several other major leaguers on a baseball CD titled "Oh Say Can You Sing." If Huff's fellow Giants had been unacquainted with his golden pipes, they became aware at Jake Peavy's "Woodjock" benefit concert in Scottsdale, Ariz., in March. Between appearances by Bernie Williams and Bronson Arroyo, Huff took the stage in skintight jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of cowboy boots. With a man-sized gold chain around his neck and a cold beverage in hand, he treated the audience to a couple of pelvic thrusts and a passable interpretation of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."

Guy Lafleur Disco Songs

Guy Lafleur disco songs- I was originally thinking of putting up a more substantial disco record for this post, but given that we're in the beginning of Hockey season up here, I figure now would be a good time to put up one of the ultimate, if not the ultimate Can-Con disco novelty record. First of all though, I have to thank Disco Delivery reader Luke Barker for kindly sending me some files from this album nearly a year ago now. I couldn't get enough of them then and I just had to track the real thing down.. I'm finally getting down to doing something on it, so special thanks to Luke for getting me acquainted with this!

At the risk of having my Canadian citizenship revoked, I have to admit that I rarely, if ever follow hockey. In fact, for me, 'Hockey Night In Canada' might as well be Don Cherry bellowing in Swahili, for all I care.. Granted, the excitement that sweeps much of the country when a Canadian team ends up in the final stretch of the playoffs or in an Olympic gold medal game can be pretty infectious, even for me. Being lousy at hockey (and at most sports generally, for that matter), I've never actually sustained any interest in following it with any degree of seriousness.

Bjork Delays Album Release

Bjork Delays Album Release: Bjork has postponed the release of her album "Biophilia" after reworking a few of the tracks. The singer's latest effort was due to hit shelves on Sept. 27, but she has pushed back the release date after realizing her songs needed "more blood and muscles, oxygen and stuff." She has also decided to include a live performance from her appearance at England's Manchester International Festival earlier this summer. In a post on her website, she writes, "I would like to explain why my album is coming out later than was first intended.

Florence & the Machine Ceremonials

Florence & the Machine Ceremonials: Florence and the Machine's new album, Ceremonials, Lilies and cupcakes and candles, oh my – it could only be a playback of the new Florence and the Machine album, Ceremonials. In an upstairs room in an east London pub earlier this week, seven tracks ("don't worry, it's not a really short album, this is just a bit of it") got their first airing. It sounds loud, and expensive. It's hard to get any sense of pace, since it was a selection of tracks rather than the whole thing, but it's fairly relentless in terms of its enormity.

Written By Tim Robin on Monday, 12 September 2011 | 00:51

Cyndi Lauper National Anthem: Cyndi Lauper flubs national anthem lyrics during U.S. Open 9/11 commemoration. Cyndi Lauper is being widely criticized on Twitter for botching the lyrics to the national anthem at the U.S. Open during an otherwise moving remembrance of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.
