Visitor's Guide to Shanksville, Pa., Site of 9/11 Tragedy: Out of the ashes of 9/11 has risen a vibrant neighbourhood packed with new restaurants and hotels, places to live and spots to shop, along with many ways to pay respects to an area some worried would never come back.
A decade after the attack on the World Trade Center, Lower Manhattan draws roughly nine million of the city's nearly 50 million visitors a year, including the area around ground zero.

The neighbourhood now has 18 hotels with more than 4000 rooms, up from six hotels and 2300 rooms on September 11, 2001. For many tourists, it's a must-see, right up there with Times Square and the Statue of Liberty.
"It's a 24/7 neighbourhood," said George Fertitta, chief executive of NYC & Company, the city's marketing and tourism arm. "It's a great moment in time for Lower Manhattan."
